Chelsea deservedly through

There you have it- holders Chelsea have marched on to Wembley to face Man City in the semi-finals. To be brutally honest, they deserved it. If not at OT, then at the Bridge.

After Benitez rested some key players against Southampton, many questioned his wisdom. This time, lucky for him it worked.

United made several changes to the starting line-up. Perhaps the only surprise came with the exclusion of Rooney due to thigh injury, as well as starting RVP on the bench.

For all their possession, United failed to make it count. They may have troubled Cech more than De Gea was, however it didn’t produce results. Cech matched every spectacular shot with an equally spectacular save.

The introduction of RVP gave United hope, but it wasn’t to be, as he spurred United’s best two chances in the dying minutes of the game- in the 88th minute and 92nd minute.

On their part, Chelsea kept calm and terrorized United on the counter, often playing samba-esque soccer inside the box, much to the displeasure of United fans.

Demba Ba scored a beauty after connecting exquisitely well with Mata’s chipped through ball, to loop the ball into the corner of the net. And they did not sit back- launching counter after counter, threatening to break past the United defence yet again.

All in all- the game never should have been replayed. United’s second half complacency let Chelsea into the game, and they could have lost it, were it not for De Gea’s brilliant last minute save.

United crash out of yet another cup, at the hands of Chelsea. While Chelsea are looking to add the FA Cup and the Europa League to their trophy cabinet, United will have to settle for the Premier League… Or will City do a,well… City!
